Costco Chicken Street taco kit Review
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Ease: Super Easy
Cost: $15.87 for 12 Street Tacos
I always thought the street taco kit looked good when I passed through the prepared deli section on my weekly Costco run, but tacos can be one of the easiest meals to prepare on your own, so I also always wondered, Why bother?
Turns out, I was so, so wrong because when I finally pulled the cord and tried them, I realized just why they’re so popular.
This Costco street taco kit embodies the Existentialism Sandwich trifecta: they’re cost-effective, easy to prepare, and very tasty.
The cooked and seasoned chicken is the star of these tacos. Cooking chicken (or deboning a roasted chicken) is the biggest pain when making tacos, and skipping that step really makes the difference here.
Find out how easy it is to prepare the ingredients in this taco kit, the nutritional breakdown of each serving, and how to use the ingredients in other ways should you (gasp!) get tired of eating tacos before you’ve polished the whole thing off.

Flavor Rating
I gotta say, I was super impressed by the components of this meal kit. The chicken was already seasoned, the salsa was smooth and spicy, and the cilantro lime crema added a ‘lil flavor pop. The slaw was kind of so-so in my opinion, but I was willing to look past that, especially since most slaw doesn’t knock my socks off enough to forget the unbearable lightness of being.
Some other reviewers mentioned they didn’t care for the texture of the chicken, but I personally had no issue with it.
Because I’m a girl who needs as much flavor as possible, I also topped my tacos with some cilantro and chopped jalapenos that were leftover from an enchilada bake from earlier in the week.
Preparation Rating
There isn’t much to do to prepare this meal, aside from heating up the chicken and the tortillas. Obviously, this is a huge factor for me, as it’s pretty obvious that five-minute meals are my jam.
Cost Rating
The exact cost of this street taco kit depends on which Costco you buy it at and the weight of the product. Since I’m only one human, I tried to find the lightest kit and ended up paying $15.87 for 2.89 pounds.
Costco claims this is 12 servings (12 tortillas), but I actually counted 16 tortillas in my kit (bonus!). That’s quite a lot of tacos for just under $16.
To purchase all of these ingredients separately (a Costco rotisserie chicken, a 12-pack of tortillas, salsa, sour cream, cilantro, limes, shredded cheese, and cabbage slaw), I would have paid around $20. Yes, I would have gotten more than 12 servings, but I don’t think I really needed all those ingredients separately, so this taco kit ended up saving me money.
costco chicken taco cooking instructions
There are two ways to heat up the chicken and tortillas in this street taco kit: stovetop or microwave. Or, you can just be like me and eat the chicken cold. Either way, it’s super easy to prepare.
STOVETOP instructions
It’s easiest to warm up the tortillas in the microwave, but you could also do so on the stovetop by placing tortillas in a skillet and heating them on medium heat.
To heat the chicken on the stovetop, place chicken pieces in a skillet on medium heat for around 10 minutes.
MICROWAVE instructions
I heated my chicken in the microwave on high for around 30 seconds.
To heat the tortillas, place each tortilla between a layer of paper towels, then nuke them on high for 10 seconds.

Other ideas for Costco street taco kit ingredients
Since there are 16 servings included in this meal kit, I decided to use the ingredients to make other types of meals, so I wasn’t eating chicken tacos for days on end.
I made beef tacos by replacing the chicken with some Costco sliced grass-fed beef sirloin strips.
I mixed about a cup of the chicken pieces with the shredded Mexican blend cheese, placed a dollop of the mixture on tortillas, rolled the tortillas up, sprayed them with avocado oil, and baked them at 350°F for about 10 minutes to make flautas.
I mixed the cabbage slaw with the cilantro lime crema to make a cool coleslaw side dish.
The chicken would also be a great topping for mac and cheese. Mix it in the mac with some chopped jalapenos, and you’ve got yourself a meal! You could even add some of the spicy salsa that’s included in the kit if you want to give the mac a roasted tomato queso vibe.
My mom really wanted to try these tacos, but she doesn’t do gluten, and the tortillas are not gluten-free, so she just plopped some of the chicken on a gluten-free corn tortilla and was really happy with the result.
