Flavor Rating

This cheese tortellini is as good as any I’ve ever tried (and this includes the Trader Joe’s cheese tortellini).

Preparation Rating

Making the Kirland 5-cheese tortellini is as easy as boiling water (literally).

Cost Rating

Compared to other similar tortellini on the market, the Costco brand is very inexpensive. Trader Giotto’s cheese tortellini costs around $2.80 for 280 grams; the Costco variation costs $14.74 for 2,800 grams. For the same amount of pasta at Trader Joe’s, you pay around $28.

Costco tortellini cooking instructions

To cook Costco Tortelloni, simply follow these instructions:

1. Heat a pot of water on high.

2. Generously salt your water.

3. Once water has come to a boil, carefully add tortellini.

4. Let cook for 3 minutes.

5. Set aside 2 cups of starchy pasta water to add to the sauce later to help tortellini bind to the sauce (I use a ladle to scoop out the water into a small pitcher).

6. Drain tortellini.

That’s it!

ideas TO USE KIRKLAND 5-CHEESE TORTELLONi

There are so many ways to use this cheese tortelloni, but two of my go-to recipes include serving it with pesto, arugula, and burrata, or serving it in a soup.

Tortelloni With Pesto, Arugula & Burrata

One of my go-to easy weeknight dinners is tortelloni with pesto, arugula, and burrata, which takes only about 10 minutes to make. Simply boil the Kirkland tortelloni for three minutes.

Drain (reserving some of the starchy pasta water) and add the tortelloni back into the pot. Mix basil pesto into the pasta and add a little of the starchy water to help the sauce bind to the pasta.

Top with arugula, a drizzle of olive oil (I like the Terra Delyssa olive oil from Costco), burrata, parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes.

Italian Tortelloni Soup

If I have a little more time to make dinner, I’ll use the Costco tortelloni in an Italian soup. I love this soup because you can easily modify it to include your favorite ingredients.

Heat up olive oil in a pot on medium heat and add a few handfuls of frozen onion, and season with salt and pepper (be careful of how much salt you add, as the bouillon you add later may contain sodium); allow the onion to cook until it’s translucent, and then add some roasted garlic.

Add some crushed Italian sausage to the pan, and allow the sausage to brown.

Once the sausage is browned, deglaze the pan with water (crank up the heat to high, add about 1/4 cup of water, and scrape the brown bits like hell). Then, add about two cups of water to the pot, add some chicken bouillon (I usually add one or two cubes because I like my soup really flavorful). Add a few squirts of tomato past.

Let your soup cook for at least 10 to 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Then, add your tortelloni. Cook for three minutes.

Once the tortelloni is cooked, turn off the heat and add a few handfuls of kale or spinach. Put the lid on the pot to allow the greens to wilt.

I also like to add some crème fraîche, half-and-half, or sour cream to the soup at this point to make it creamy. I also top my soup with some crushed red pepper to give it a little kick.
